The guy who lost the deal... That's all you need to know.

jimmylives:

I can’t think of another actor who acquired stardom so quickly, who held it for such a short time, and then kept it for such a long time. James Dean became a star in one calendar year, and then he left us. But he’s still being talked about, he’s still being revered, he’s still being iconized forty years later. I don’t think there’s another example like it in the entire history of movies.” -Leonard Maltin, movie critic

LIFEI can’t wait for this! Had this photo-book of James Dean photographed by Dennis Stock for like about eight years now and now they are making it into a film. Stock took that Iconice shot of Dean in a damp and rainy day at Time Square. James Dean has been my idol since I was about 12 years old when I first saw Giant, East of Eden and Rebel Without A Cause, and i’ve been waiting for a feature film about him and his life (Besides the James Franco TV Movie). Seeing him come to life again on-screen played by Dane Dehaan (A really good actor) is very exciting. Life, which is the title of the movie, is basically about Life Magazine hiring photographer Dennis Stock (Robert Pattinson) to shoot the enigmatic James Dean (Dane Dehaan). In the photo-book Stock follows Dean back to his hometown of Fairmount Indiana, to his life in New York City, and his filming of Rebel Without A Cause in Los Angeles.

"All was dark about it, earth and sky, but it was lit with light. Not the imprisoned moonlight welling through the marble walls of Minas Ithil long ago, Tower of the Moon, fair and radiant in the hollow of the hills. Paler indeed than the moon ailing in some slow eclipse was the light of it now, wavering and blowing like a noisome exhalation of decay, a corpse-light, a light that illuminated nothing."

Love this scene! The color adds such a majestic sort of grim to its darker side.
